What is Amity University

  • Amity is part of the Amity Education Group, founded by the Chauhan family.

  • It is a not-for-profit private university group with multiple campuses across India and overseas.

  • It offers education across levels: from pre-nursery / schools, undergraduate, postgraduate, to doctoral programmes.

Campuses & Reach

  • Amity has a large presence in India: many campuses (Noida, Gurugram, Mumbai, Gwalior, Jaipur, Kolkata, Patna etc.) each established through state acts or under state / central recognition.

  • It also has overseas campuses in places like Dubai, London, Singapore, Tashkent etc.

Academics & Research

  • Offers a wide variety of courses across fields: engineering, management, law, liberal arts, life sciences, design, architecture, media, etc. Undergrad, postgrad, and PhD levels.

  • Emphasis on research and innovation: faculty and scientists have filed many patents (claimed to be among highest for private institutions in India).

  • Collaboration with global universities & industry-led institutions.

Rankings, Recognition & Accreditations

  • Recognised by UGC (University Grants Commission) as a legitimate degree-granting university.

  • Some campuses have NAAC accreditation with good grades (e.g. Noida campus has “A+”).

  • It is frequently ranked among top private/university groups in India by media and rankings bodies. E.g., called “India’s #1 Not-for-Profit Private University” by India Today

Strengths

  • Infrastructure: Good labs, libraries, modern classrooms etc.

  • Placement opportunities: Large alumni base, active placement drives, strong industry tie-ups.

  • Scholarships: Several meritorious and special scholarships are available.

  • Variety: Many courses, options across campuses, possibility of inter-campus or international exposure.

Things to Watch / Criticisms

  • Fee cost: Private universities like Amity tend to be expensive, so cost vs return is something to check depending on course and campus.

  • Variation between campuses: Quality, faculty, infrastructure etc. can vary from one campus to another. What’s good in Noida might not be the same elsewhere.

  • Ranking discrepancies: Some ranking metrics give more weight to infrastructure, visibility etc., which might inflate scores; some students feel that in certain departments the academic rigor is uneven.

  • Transparency & regulatory checks: As with many private institutions, students often check whether all accreditations, recognitions, approvals (especially for professional courses) are in place.

These are general steps followed across most Amity campuses in India. Some details (deadlines, cut-offs) vary by campus & program.

Step

What to do

1. Check Eligibility

Look at the eligibility criteria for the specific program you want

(UG / PG / Diploma etc.). These are listed on the Amity website.

Usually require Class 12 for UG, relevant bachelor’s for PG.

Non-written/vocational subjects etc. may be excluded in aggregate calculation.

2. Fill Application Form

Apply online via the Amity website / Admission Microsite.

You’ll need to upload documents (Class X mark sheet, photograph etc.).

Pay the application fee (≈₹1,100–₹1,500 depending on campus).

3. Direct Admission Option

If you meet certain criteria (e.g. ≥ 80% aggregate in Class XII from

CBSE/ISC/state boards in recent years), you may get Direct Admission.

This means you don’t need to go through additional selection tests/interviews

for many programs. (Note: Direct Admission may not apply to all courses like Architecture / Design / Fashion / Law etc.)

4. Entrance / Screening / Selection

If you don’t qualify for direct admission, or for specific programs, there will be a

selection process. Could include: written tests (Amity test, subject aptitude etc.),

Group Discussion, Interview, Creative Test (for design, fine arts).

Some law programs accept CLAT scores.

5. Merit / Score Cut-offs

After selection or test / interview, a merit list is prepared. You may be called

for counselling or admission based on your merit & availability of seats.

6. Fee Payment & Document Submission

Once you are offered admission, you will need to pay admission fees / security deposit,

submit required documents (mark sheets, identity proofs etc.), complete other formalities.

Here are important special rules / variations:

  • CLAT for Law courses: Some UG law programs (e.g. B.A. LL.B, etc.) use CLAT scores for direct admission if the score is above a threshold. If not, then Amity’s own selection test / procedure applies.

  • Alumni privilege for PG: Amity often gives direct admission to its alumni (for certain PG programs) if they satisfy minimum eligibility.

  • Foreign / NRI Students: Separate process / fee structure for foreign / NRI students. Different eligibility documentation required.

  • Exclusion in aggregate calculation: Subjects like Physical Education, Fine Arts, Vocational / non-written papers are excluded when calculating the aggregate for eligibility / direct admission. Only academic/written allied subjects are considered.

  • Programs not eligible for direct admission via 80% rule: Architecture, Design, Fashion, Law, Physical Education etc. — these typically require additional tests / creative rounds.

Recent / Updated Rules

  • The latest prospectus (2025) for Amity University Noida confirms the direct admission 80% of Class XII rule for UG programs for that year.

  • Also, in 2025, for law programs direct admission via CLAT requires a score of 75 or above, subject to eligibility.

  • Applications usually open around January–February and the deadlines vary by campus; for Noida in recent years, UG/PG application deadlines are around September-October.
