Common Facilities across SRM Campuses

  • Fully air-conditioned classrooms with modern audiovisual aids (projectors, smart boards) for enhanced teaching.

  • Well-equipped labs: engineering labs (ECE, etc.), physics, chemistry, microprocessor / microcontroller work, etc.

  • Central libraries: large book/periodical holdings, both print & digital, online journals, reference sections.

  • Seminar halls / auditoriums: air-conditioned auditoriums for convocations, seminars; open auditoriums too; multiple smaller seminar halls.

  • Hostel facilities: separate hostels for boys and girls; AC and non-AC rooms; shared rooms; hot water (often round-the-clock or via solar heaters); study halls inside hostels.

  • Food and mess / dining halls inside hostels; food courts / canteens, often separate vegetarian / non-veg options.

  • Sports & recreation: indoor / outdoor sports grounds, courts (badminton, basketball etc.), gym / yoga halls.

  • Healthcare: campus hospital / medical centre, sometimes specialty hospital; first-aid, emergency services.

  • Transport: fleet of buses for commuting; AC / Non-AC transport depending on the campus and location.

  • Other amenities: bank / ATM, departmental stores, internet / telecom centres, supermarket, stores for basic needs, internet / WiFi access.

  • Infrastructure efforts: green / sustainability features (waste water recycling, food waste recycling, RO water, etc.), safety measures, security.

Facilities Specific to SRM Ramapuram

  • There are 5 academic blocks on the Ramapuram campus over about 27 acres.

  • Hostel setup: 3 hostels for women, 2 for men.

  • Auditoriums: One air-conditioned auditorium with ~750 seating, plus an open auditorium of ~3000 seats; plus three seminar halls (200 capacity each) in Ramapuram.

  • Library: Fully air-conditioned central library, good book & journal collection, with portions for internet access etc.

  • Support facilities in the hostels: kitchens, dining halls, hot water, study halls, department stores & internet centre for boys & girls.

Facilities Specific to SRM Kattankulathur (KTR)

  • Very large campus (~250 acres) with many academic blocks of Engineering, Medicine & Health Sciences, Management, Science & Humanities.

  • SRM Hospital & Research Center on campus, plus SRM Hotel with a swimming pool.

  • Big auditoriums: e.g. an air-conditioned auditorium which seats ~4000 people.

  • Smart classrooms, language labs offering various foreign languages (English, German, Japanese, French, Chinese) in KTR.

  • Dedicated transport: around 40 buses (AC & non-AC) running between city and campus.

  • SRM Kattankulathur (KTR) tends to offer more consistent value, especially in high-demand branches like CSE, IT etc. Higher placement rates, better infrastructure in main blocks, etc. If you can get into KTR and can afford the fees, it may be a safer bet.

  • SRM Ramapuram is more mixed: good for people living in Chennai, wanting to minimize travel; but some compromises may be required (crowding, variable infrastructure, somewhat lower average placements for non-IT branches). If your specialization is strong and you are motivated (self-study, projects etc.), you could still get good outcomes there.

  • Key to getting good returns seems heavily dependent on your own effort: how strong you are in coding, projects, internships, how you approach placements & networking.

  • Before deciding, check for your specific branch: CSE vs core vs humanities etc. Also try to talk to current students of that branch in that campus. Look at recent placement stats (last 1-2 years) for your branch. That will give a more precise idea.

SRM University – Student Reviews Overall Experience SRM University is one of India’s most recognized private universities, with multiple campuses across Chennai and beyond. The Kattankulathur (KTR) main campus is the flagship, while the Ramapuram campus offers a city-based learning environment. Student reviews reflect a mix of strong opportunities and common challenges, depending on campus and branch. Academics & Faculty The quality of academics is often branch-specific. Students in Computer Science and IT-related programs generally report better exposure, updated labs, and active placement support. In other streams, experiences vary depending on the faculty. Some professors are highly supportive and encourage projects, while others are seen as less engaging. Placements Placements are a highlight, especially at KTR. Top recruiters like Amazon, Microsoft, Accenture, and Infosys visit regularly. CSE and IT students receive the best offers, with packages reaching 40–50 LPA for top performers. Average salaries range between 6–8 LPA for KTR and slightly lower for Ramapuram. In non-CSE branches, placements are available but often at lower pay scales. Infrastructure & Facilities KTR campus is spread across 250 acres with advanced classrooms, labs, a central library, hostels, hospital, and multiple auditoriums. Ramapuram is smaller and urban, with modern blocks but limited open space. Both campuses provide WiFi, canteens, gyms, and hostel facilities. Students appreciate the availability of amenities but sometimes complain about hostel food quality and maintenance issues. Campus Life Cultural fests, clubs, and student activities are a big part of life at SRM. Students describe the environment as energetic, with opportunities to build networks and explore extracurriculars. Peer groups are diverse, and events make campus life engaging. Fees & Value for Money One of the biggest concerns is cost. Annual tuition fees are high, ranging from 2.5 to 7 lakh depending on branch and campus. While CSE students often justify the investment due to strong placements, those in core engineering or non-technical branches sometimes feel the return on investment is weaker. Hidden costs (exam fees, lab charges, hostel expenses) are also mentioned. Pros Strong placements in CSE/IT streams Modern infrastructure at KTR campus Active student life with clubs and events Recognition and brand value in India and abroad Cons Very high tuition and hostel fees Uneven teaching quality across departments Average placements in non-IT branches Hostel food and maintenance often criticized Verdict SRM University is a good choice for students aiming for Computer Science, IT, or related fields, especially at the Kattankulathur campus. Ramapuram offers convenience for city-based students but with some compromises in space and average placements. Success at SRM ultimately depends on the student’s initiative, skill development, and ability to leverage the university’s resources.
