Passing the IEM entrance exam is the beginning of a student’s engineering career, but knowing the entire admission process gives students an advantage and helps them to get the seat in their preferred college or branch.
The results of the IEM entrance exam are announced within one week. The scores obtained by the candidates are the basis for the preparation of the merit list by the exam authority. Students are ranked according to this list and seats are allocated. The institution also puts out separate category-wise merit lists for the reserved candidates.
Once the merit list is published, the institution then draws the eligible students to attend the counselling rounds. The procedure takes place in both online and offline modes and during this period students are obliged to present their original documents for the purpose of verification. The seat allotment is done after the counselling rounds according to a student’s rank, the availability of his/her preferred branch and seats. For IEM Kolkata admission, the entire counselling and seat allotment process is 2-3 weeks after the result declaration.
The talk now shifts to IEM fees. A B.Tech (4-years) course at IEM Kolkata would cost about 1.5 lakhs to 2 lakhs annually. However, streams such as computer science may have slightly higher IEM fees.
The hostel expense at IEM Kolkata is approximately between Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1.2 lakhs per annum. But the mess charges for food are around Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000 per year. The hostel IEM fees consist of only the accommodation charges.
The high profile IEM placements are one of the main factors that make students think about taking up this college over other engineering colleges in Kolkata. The institute has a placement legacy of 30 years and IEM placements do not stop till the last student of a batch is placed.

Class 12 students who are simultaneously preparing for JEE Mains should appear for IEMJEE 2026.
